Shalimar Spice Garden is located in Murikkady village, and at an altitude of 800m above sea level, benefits from a temperate climate.
The village is set on the fringes of the world-famous Periyar Tiger Reserve. One of the largest and most popular wildlife reserves in India, set among the cardamom hills of the Western Ghats, Periyar is home to bison, antelopes, wild boar, elephants, tigers and over 260 species of birds.
The best way of touring the sanctuary is by taking a boat cruise across Periyar Lake. Trekking in the jungle with guide is an added attraction.
