Architecture at the Widder

The Widder Hotel is housed in 8 historical buildings, national monuments, which were originally owned by the feudal Switzerland Guild of Butchers. In 1970 the architect Tilla Theus was selected to transform the buildings into a hotel.

The building work alone took 4 years to complete, and after 25 years the whole project was completed, and the Widder Hotel was born, a truly unique hotel in the heart of Zurich.

The 8 buildings have been brought together and fused into one grand design, including five basements, one ground floor, and six upper floors with nine elevators connecting the various levels of the individual houses.

The final result is a hotel that stands from other standard luxury residences, with not only a unique history and appearance, but also furnished to the brim with unique furniture and a dedicated attention to detail.
