Set in tropical gardens on an ancient salt route on the southwest coast of Sardinia, the luxury Forte Village is the perfect choice for a pampering holiday in the sun. The resort offers a huge range of options; it is essentially a pick ‘n’ mix where you can create a completely personal experience.
Everything is at your fingertips, so you don’t have to travel far to enjoy the best Sardinia has to offer. Indeed, Forte Village is one of the most self-contained, efficient and luxurious resorts I’ve had the pleasure to stay in.
The resort contains eight exquisite four- and five-star hotels. We stayed in the five-star Hotel Castello, located in a quiet area surrounded by a fragrant pine forest. Our room had a wonderful balcony overlooking the resort so we could sit and watch the world go by in the evenings, perfect for relaxing with a chilled gin and tonic.
Never had we been anywhere with so many facilities on our doorstep – an ice-rink, a bowling alley, more than 20 restaurants, a shopping arcade, a golf course, fitness classes… the list of amenities offered throughout the resort goes on and on! There are loads of activities for kids of all ages and adults too. Our favourite facility was the world-renowned spa, but there’s something for everyone. No matter which hotel you choose to stay in, one thing’s for sure: there’s plenty to do. It’s no surprise the resort has won World Leading Resort at the World Travel Awards for 14 consecutive years.
Our two sons loved the Chelsea Football Club Soccer School, as well as the Five-Star Rugby Academy. In fact, they had such a great time, we hardly saw them the whole holiday – they were always rushing off to try a new sport or play in one of the many child-friendly pools.
It’s always hard to choose a highlight of a holiday, but for me it was dinner at
the Gordon Ramsay Restaurant – delicious food and excellent wines served in wonderful surroundings. The restaurant even inspired me to take one of the gourmet cooking classes offered at the resort. Thalasso del Forte Spa is world-renowned and extremely popular. It provides an intimate haven in the midst of this activity-driven resort. Boasting six thalassotherapy pools nestled among palm trees and greenery on the hillside, it is the perfect place to unwind and pamper yourself.
The waters of the thalassotherapy pools vary from 25 to 35 degrees, so you can relax and revive your body in comfort as the intensity of the sea oil and aloe reaches your senses. If you’d rather a more hands-on approach, the spa offers plenty of treatments to keep you pampered and refreshed. Try the Shiatsu Massage followed by a dip in one of the pools for utter relaxation.
Dr Mosaraf Ali, a pioneer in integrated medicine, has a clinic at the resort. With a client list that includes Michael Douglas, Richard Branson and Claudia Schiffer, Dr Ali combines traditional Eastern practices with modern Western medicine through massages, yoga sessions and relaxation techniques.
