As the rest of the world brings in influences from Morocco to make their spas more exotic, I decided to go to the source. After years of renovation, La Sultana evokes the charm of historical luxurious riads, each suite having the atmosphere of a private home while being part of a boutique hotel resort. Earthy and ochre tones adorn the rooms and suites, which all boast grand fireplaces, priceless antiques and fine art.

Our favourite part of this hotel was the rooftop terrace, with views across the fairytale city of Marrakech. Settling into our sophisticated five-star suite – blessed with a stunning marble bathroom, ornate fittings and private patio – we soon set about making the most of our glamorous holiday. It wasn’t long before we were checking out the delights of the vibrant Moroccan capital and whiling away hours in the on-site spa with treatments that left us pampered, rested and rejuvenated. We loved spending time wandering around the pretty gardens, admiring the city landscape from the terraces and relaxing with a refreshing mint tea in one of the many comfortable nooks.

La Sultana Spa is beautifully designed, merging traditional charm with modern styling, soft and natural colours and antique décor. As promised by the spa staff, we had an unforgettable experience at this little beauty haven – never has pampering felt so decadent. The therapists were welcoming, treatments were readily available and we could have stayed the whole day. The facilities secure the hotel’s luxury status, with a star-domed marble hammam taking centre stage.

The best spa experience of the week was the La Sultana Day Package – beginning with a hammam and full body scrub that awakened our senses and left our skin glowing. We were then treated to an argan oil body and hair mask. The delicious aromas and the soothing nature of our treatments left us feeling sleepy, so we enjoyed what was left of the day snoozing in the warmth of the sun on our private terrace – it doesn’t get much better than that.
