Puravida Resort Blau Porto Petro*****

Nestled on a 900m stretch of seafront on the beautiful eastern coast of Mallorca, Blau Porto Petro is surrounded by a fragrant pine forest. Opened in 2005, this resort is modern and stylish, with Mediterranean architecture and over 300 rooms, suites and villas.

The largest of the Balearic islands, Mallorca is best known for its year-round sunshine and golden sands. We’d picked the hotel for its beachside location, knowing our suite would include exceptional sea views.

The hotel is based near the pretty fishing village and marina of Porto Petro, with beaches nearby, as well as the Mondragó Nature Reserve – plenty to look forward to during our stay.

Looking out at the stunning natural scenery from the comfort of our suite was the best way to start each day.

The resort offers so many facilities and activities that we were never bored – we spent our time lazing on the picturesque semi-private beach, playing a round of golf or a game of volleyball and spoiling ourselves in the spa. In the warm evenings we enjoyed sampling delicious local food.

The Balearic islands are famed for their pleasant year-round climate and stunning natural scenery. Golden beaches, pine-clad mountains, whitewashed villages and a relaxing atmosphere are guaranteed to inspire romance.

We spent the first few days sunbathing on the hotel beach, shamelessly giving in to our laziness. Then it was time to explore the activities – we tried wind-surfing, snorkelling, sailing and tennis. On our last night my husband booked a surprise romantic day – a four-hour couples’ treatment in the spa, followed by a candlelit dinner with champagne and roses.

Another unforgettable experience was a sailing excursion in a traditional two-mast boat. We left from the hotel’s private dock – it was a wonderful way to explore the beautiful coastline. Those looking for further peace and quiet should rent a car and head inland to explore the idyllic countryside and many untouched villages.

  • Try your hand at the multitude of watersports and other activities on offer
  • Rent a jeep and tour the island
  • Enjoy couples’ treatments in the spa
  • See the sunrise from a balloon
  • Discover the delights of Mondrago National Park by horse and carriage, or on a bike tour

This prestigious resort is within close proximity to the Vall d’Or, a par 71 course and one of the island’s preferred destinations for a round of the game. With its hilltop location, the course boasts unparalleled views of the sea, and offers two completely different landscapes for players to enjoy. The front nine holes have rolling fairways and are surrounded by a forest, while the back nine have wider and more undulating fairways that dip towards the coast, providing a challenge for any keen golfer to get their teeth into.

Vall d’Or has everything a golfer needs, from a summer restaurant on the terrace to a pro shop, games room and swimming pool – perfect for cooling off after a tough round. Of course, if you want to take your golf a little more seriously during your stay, there are ten other excellent courses within 45 minutes of the resort.

The spa at Blau Porto Petro is a haven – soothing aromas and relaxing music create the perfect escape. The 1,200sqm wellness centre offers a range of holistic and beauty treatments. Essential oils keep you calm and peaceful as you relax; treatments are personalised so that your body gets what it needs while your mind is relieved of stress.

For a day of rejuvenation, the Water Therapy circuit should be your first port of call; with advanced facilities such as the Finnish sauna, hydrotherapy pool, ice fountain and hammam, everything you need to relax and unwind is at your disposal. Try the specialised showers for an invigorating treat, or bathe in the jacuzzi to release tension pre-treatment. For tailor-made pampering, try out the one-day wellness retreats; the Girls Day Out package is perfect if you love your beauty treatments – it lasts a leisurely six hours.
