This elegant hotel is based in Catalonia, just 70km from the ample cultural delights of Barcelona. Le Méridien Ra Beach Hotel & Spa provides the ideal location from which to explore the dramatic coast and the beauty of the Priorat and Penedès wine regions. The classic seafront building was built in 1929 and was converted into a luxury hotel in 2004, and it has been a landmark of the Costa Dorada region ever since.

We arrived at Le Méridien Ra Beach Hotel & Spa just as the sun was setting, bathing Sant Salvador in a heavenly golden glow. The beach is a joy – the hotel even supplies iPads straight to your beach bed, so you can browse the menu of delicious cocktails and snacks without summoning a waiter.

Our suite was elegant and beautifully designed, full of warm tones, sleek furnishings and bright, airy rooms. Unpretentious despite its modern style, the hotel had all we needed to take advantage of the surroundings, together with unrivalled facilities and one of the best-equipped spas in Europe. The food was a highlight – from breakfast on the beach to lunch by the pool and dinner on one of the delightful terraces – all making the most of the stunning views. As one of the most spectacular spas of its kind in the region, Explore Spa is a must-visit. If you need a day off from exploring the sights of Catalonia, a whole day of pampering and indulgence is just the thing to keep you feeling your best.

Using purified mineral-rich local sea-water and other natural ingredients, the spa utilises time-trusted rituals and the latest science resulting in treatments that will leave you feeling revived and rejuvenated. Explore Spa’s thalassotherapy treatments are renowned thanks to the high iodine and trace element content of the water – ten times higher than the average concentration of the Mediterranean.

The ‘Art of Beauty’ concept by La Prairie makes Explore Spa one of the most exclusive and popular beauty centres in Europe. I tried a La Prairie facial – for an hour I was soothed, massaged, exfoliated and pampered until I felt years younger.

Guests of the spa will delight in all it has to offer to soothe mind, body and soul; treatments with marine products including seaweed therapy, mud therapy and hydro-massage are available. Ayurvedic treatments, beauty treatments, anti-cellulite treatments, skin consultations and plenty more will make you look and feel your best from top to toe. There are also jacuzzis, saunas, steam baths, a solarium and more.
