New cities, New
Year
New Year’s Eve is famous for being the start of new
beginnings, with people making resolutions and promises to themselves that are
often broken within the first twenty four hours. If you’re one of the people
planning on starting the ‘new you’, then why not start it in a new city? What
better way to escape the overrated and overpriced nights out at home, than
jetting off to a different country? After all, who wants to start the new you
in places that are symbolic of the old you? You could be in Times Square
watching the ball drop, or in China at the Spring Festival. Get away to a different kind of celebration in
Thailand or Iceland. Whatever you do, make sure your New Year’s is celebrated
in a luxury city escape!
Rio
Bring in the New Year with a bang in Brazil’s party capital.
Spectacular fireworks can be seen along Copacabana Beach, all with a cocktail
in hand. Instead of shivering in the cold why not watch the fireworks in your
swimwear; many of the celebrations in Rio end in the warm sea, dancing to beats
from the annual music festival. Another feature is the Brazilian New Year Carnival
with fancy dress, singing and dancing to traditional music such as the famous samba.
Moscow
Why not indulge in a special heritage holiday in Moscow this
New Year? The city is alive with cultural attractions, all open for New Year’s
festivities. Join in with the Father Frost tradition, giving presents to the
churches for those in need. For an added extra join in the New Year’s past time
of fortune telling, and find out what 2013 has in store for you!
London
Extravagant meals, midnight parties, and champagne are the significant
parts of a luxury New Year’s city break in London. Join the crowds of people
along the River Thames all eagerly anticipating one of the best fireworks
displays in the world. End your night at La Soriee, a grand-scale cabaret
featuring aquatic acrobatics. Or for those wanting a more peaceful night, head
to Kings Place to see the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment perform. Remember
not to indulge too much, as the New Year’s parade on January 1st (complete
with music, dancing, acrobats and drummers) is not to be missed.
Bangkok
For a complete change of scenery, take a trip to Thailand. While
there you could head to Central World Square for a traditional Thai countdown.
Alternatively, spend the evening on Pattaya Beach celebrating at a full moon
party- arguably the best outdoors adventure in Thailand! From water tubing to
dancing under the stars with a drink (or a bucket), Bangkok is certainly set to
impress.
Hong Kong
New Year’s is not taken lightly in China, with celebrations
lasting a whole month! Start your ‘new you’ at the Spring Festival. Here you’ll
party until the early hours with the famous dragon dancers and eat enough food
to feed an army. For those looking for a special romantic escape in Hong Kong, be
one of the few to climb up and watch the first sunrise of 2013 from Lantau Peak. Make sure your stay is long enough to
take in the Chinese New Year too, as the Lantern Festival at the end of January
is absolutely spectacular.
Dubai
Instead of the traditional high rises in Dubai, take a trip
into the Sahara Desert. Bedouin campsites offer traditional Arabian nights with
sheesha, henna and sand-boarding. Bring in the New Year like never before, with
belly and fire dancing, all while settling down under the star-lit sky. Why not
go all out, and camp overnight, waking up to the outstanding views of sand dunes
and sun streaked skies?
Where to stay
For a 5 star outdoors break in Dubai we recommend the
Majestic Hotel Tower Dubai. If you’re looking for a special heritage holiday in
Moscow then the Hotel Savoy Moscow is the destination for you. For a luxury city
break in London stay at the Hazlitts, based in Soho. Finally, for one of the
best romantic resorts in Hong Kong stay at the Charterhouse Causeway Bay.
