Winter wonderland...

by Jill Dixon

To get you in the festive spirit, why not visit a winter theme park? Gather the family together, wrap up warm and head to your nearest winter wonderland…

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland
promises to be a fantastic event in the heart of London and is suitable for the whole family. There’s something for everyone at this fun event including: outdoor ice rink, a giant wheel boasting spectacular views over London, sleigh rides, snowball bungee dome and a fantastic mirror maze! For children there are a number of fairground rides available and for the grownups the site also offers a German Christmas market and an array of cafes and bars.

Where to stay:

San Domenico House

Phantasialand theme park is located near Bruhl outside of Cologne and offers seven themed areas in an enchanted setting steeped in myth and fairytale. Adrenaline junkies should make a beeline for the Black Mamba rollercoaster but there are plenty of activities and rides to choose from, with a Western-themed area, a spooky castle and more.

Where to stay:

Granhotel Schloss Bensberg

For a wintry experience in a contrasting climate, why not visit Snow World in Hyderabad, India. While it may be scorching outside, Snow World is home to 200 tonnes of snow and maintains a constant temperature of minus 5. Though there may not be a roller coaster or Santa’s grotto on offer, this surreal setting should help you get in the mood for the holidays!
