A collection of 18 spacious, contemporary chalets designed in a traditional African style, Lake Duluti Lodge is an exclusive retreat in the heart of Tanzania. Positioned on the shores of Lake Duluti, a crater lake sacred to the local Meru people, the Lodge is an elegant rural retreat surrounded by some of Africa’s most stunning landscapes.
Set on a working coffee plantation, this sublime resort allows its guests a glimpse into African daily life, as well as offering a seemingly endless menu of activities and experiences.
Our chalet was simply stunning – wooden floors, locally carved furniture and a massive canopied bed strewn with colourful cushions and lush fabrics. We had a mini-bar, coffee-making facilities, TV with satellite channels and internet connection – despite the rural setting, luxury is not compromised.
Our butler took care of our every need – from arranging transportation, ordering meals and making sure we felt constantly looked after.
What could be more romantic than your own private luxury chalet in the heart of such breathtaking scenery? We enjoyed hours lazing on our deck, looking out over the beautiful coffee plantation, listening to the sounds of the exotic African birds. Our butler provided us with everything we needed – we were truly spoilt throughout our stay. Meals are cooked to order and could be taken wherever we wanted – in the privacy of our own chalet, in the main dining area, on a deck or by the swimming pool.
Staff at Lake Duluti Lodge also arrange excursions, including a day at Arusha National Park. The cost of the trip includes park fees, transport and a professional guide. They’ll even provide a tasty packed lunch and soft drinks – heaven! Luxury is found in every corner at Lake Duluti Lodge – making it the perfect place for honeymooners. What better way to celebrate than surrounded by such stunning landscapes, and an atmosphere of peace and quiet?
We took advantage of the Special Honeymoon Package and during our three-night stay we enjoyed endless romantic extras. On arrival we were greeted by smiling staff and a chilled glass of sparkling wine. We sipped our drinks while lounging on our king-size bed and admiring the splendid view from our huge bedroom windows. Later that afternoon we were both treated to a 30-minute massage and afterwards, feeling suitably relaxed, we strolled down to the swimming pool and cooled down with a dip in the water. As we watched the sunset we were offered some delicious tropical cocktails.
The service at Lake Duluti Lodge was fantastic; the staff made sure we had every comfort possible. They refreshed the mini-bar in our room every day, restocking it with bottled water, juices and beers, and turned down our bed on the first night. The scattered rose petals were a romantic touch.
Other memorable highlights included a candlelit dinner under the stars and taking a canoe out onto Lake Duluti. Everything was peaceful, and we were so well looked after, that it was hard to leave when it was time to fly home.
