A luxury resort located in the pretty town of Algorfa, Alicante, La Finca Golf & Spa Resort is guaranteed to impress. Travelling with a golf fanatic can sometimes be a bit of a drag, but there is so much to do at La Finca I could let my boyfriend indulge his game while I explored the facilities and the many activities on offer.

But first things first. Our room was huge, decorated in a lovely fresh green and white palette, and overlooked the picturesque swimming pool and loungers. Everything we needed, including wireless internet and a well stocked mini-bar, was at our fingertips, and there was also a spacious balcony to take in the splendid views.

Dining is a joy at this resort. We headed to Jardines La Finca on our first evening to celebrate the beginning of our holiday, and enjoyed some lovely local dishes on the pretty terrace.

The daily breakfast buffet was my favourite – a wonderful selection of cold cuts, cheeses, fruit, pastries, breads and more that kept us going throughout the day and through all the activities we had planned. The staff at the Pool Bar made us some delicious cocktails that we sipped while soaking up the rays on our sun loungers. Thanks to its proximity to so many impressive courses, this is an excellent golf destination. The resort is located within the La Finca golf course, which we’d heard was one of the best courses in Spain. We were not disappointed.

Wide fairways, generous greens and spectacular views (especially of the Vega Baja del Segura River) made this a joy to play.

La Finca is also home to the Victor Andreu Golf Academy. Here you can practice your technique and work with an excellent team of professionals to improve your game. The Academy boasts a driving range, putting greens, chipping area and practice bunker, as well as a shop selling everything you could ever need.

The hotel offers shuttles to some excellent nearby courses. Villamartin has been a favourite for many since 1972, and hosted the 1997 European Tour event.

Golf greats including Severiano Ballesteros, Jose Maria Olazabal, Ian Woosnan and Sam Torrance have played this great golf course.

Another golf destination is Las Ramblas course, with its fragrant Mediterranean pines and natural watercourses.
