The original hotel was opened in 1803, many changes have taken place since then including relocation and complete rebuild completed in 1897. The name of the hotel was also changed, following the Great War, from The Coberg to The Connaught, after Queen Victoria’s third son. The hotel has been run like a private house with high standards of comfort and service. The Connaught is in a quiet corner of Mayfair and is discreetly comfortable and luxurious. The style is traditional English and a beautiful example of the best of Victorian/Edwardian style with fine antique furniture and pretty crystal chandeliers. If you want to feel like a member of the aristocracy this is the place to stay.

Each of the 75 rooms and 27 suites have foyers and antique furniture with fresh flowers. The bathrooms are beautifully appointed with large bathtubs and showers, Floris toiletries and bathrobes are provided. All the rooms are equipped with direct dial telephones, voice mail, high-speed Internet connection, video conferencing facilities, and satellite TV, CD and DVD players. The Butler service is available at the press of a button.

Menu is the main restaurant at the Connaught and has one Michelin star, the chef, Angela Hartnett, is a protégé of Gordon Ramsay. The room is beautifully appointed in olive green, rich wood panelling, beautiful place settings and crisp white table cloths which set the tone for the delicious food inspired by Mediterranean flavours. Menu is open every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Grill Room is a more intimate space than the main restaurant with room for 40 guests, subtle lighting and comfortable furnishings set the scene for a superb dining experience with the added bonus of the extensive choice of wines from the Connaught’s cellar. The Grill Room is open for lunch and dinner Monday to Friday and dinner only on Saturdays. The Terrace is a lovely conservatory style area with retractable ceilings for fine weather and shares the main restaurant menus; it is open daily from 11.30am to 8.30pm. The Connaught bar is slightly less formal than Menu and the Grillroom and is open for breakfast and light meals and snacks throughout the day. The American bar open in the evenings is a comfortable, intimate setting for cocktails or digestives.
