About Quilalea Island
Quilálea Island is a private, uninhabited marine sanctuary, nestling in the Quirimbas Archipelago in the northern-most province of Mozambique, opposite the Comores islands in the warm Indian Ocean. Providing a genuine haven of luxury and beauty with the highest degree of seclusion, there are just nine private villas constructed of natural rock with Makuti thatch. Each has a spectacular panoramic view, and comes equipped with a king-size bed, antique-style shower, minibar and indigenous teak and mahogany furniture.
One of the most biodiverse marine areas in the world, the island is home to grazing dugongs, fish eagles, nesting turtles, and an array of fish and humpback whales, which shelter their young in Quilálea’s deep channel.
At Quilálea you will experience total relaxation and rejuvenation on a malaria-free, pristine tropical island.

Sunset dhow cruises, first-class scuba diving and snorkelling, and excursions to private coves and islands are just some of the romantic activities that can be organised.
Deep-sea fishing outside the marine sanctuary is both an exceptional and original experience. The neighbouring Sencar island has a mangrove swamp interior, which is an ideal backdrop for canoeing and kayaking. Spot one of the indigenous birds or Samango monkeys. Take a boat trip to historic Ibo island and stroll through time among 16th Century forts and mansions. Conservation and culture are key themes of the Quilálea experience.
