Kumarakom Lake Resort is able to offer custom-made packages for business groups and travellers. One of the most eventful times to visit is between August and September during the seasonal water carnivals. At this time, the traditional snake boat races of Kerala are staged in the resort’s backwaters, involving over 30 metre-long wooden water crafts with a hundred oarsmen. Besides growing cardamom and other spices, the nearby hills offer the possibility of glimpsing elephants, deer and wild buffaloes. A stroll through the adjoining villages promises encounters with basket weavers, blacksmiths and goldsmiths. Exploring the lush green paddy fields is also an experience as Kumarakom is renowned for its below sea level farming. "...The Kumarakom Lake Resort is PARADISE on earth. We fell in love with the hotel as we entered it. We booked the duplex meandering villa which was absolutely beautifully. There were so many free activities for the children from pottery to weaving to fishing. The staff were really wonderful and did everything possible to make our stay trouble free. The kids were really nicely treated. I would recommend this place to anyone and will defenitely visit again...."

Things to do

One of the best ways to discover Vembanad Lake is by taking a cruise in a motorized rice boat (kettuvallam) that is luxuriously furnished and fully equipped. Cruising around the lagoon is made easy as each motorized house-boat comes with a full crew. An exciting time to visit is between August and September during the seasonal water carnivals, which involve the traditional snake boat races of Kerala. These involve over 30 metre-long wooden water crafts with a hundred oarsmen. It is worth taking a day to explore the hills and tea plantations of Kerala. Inhale the aroma of cardamom while taking in the beauty of the verdant countryside. Within an hour of the resort are churches and temples that display some of the oldest architecture in the country. Examples include Thirunakkara Temple.
