The castle was built almost 300 years ago in an elegantly understated Monarchic style by Prince Johann Wilhelm II to serve as a 'maison de retraite'. Strategically sited atop a hill in the centre of Bensberg/Bergisch Gladbach, this baroque masterpiece offers a magnificent view of the city of Cologne, just 15 kilometres away. After lavish refurbishment, the castle was transformed into the Grandhotel Schloss Bensberg, which opened in August 2000.
