Inaugurated as a five-star hotel in 1989, the sunny Quinta da Bela Vista is surrounded by the magnificent landscape of the Island of Madeira and benefits from mild weather throughout the four seasons of the year. It is conveniently situated in Funchal, just over a mile from the town centre. Dating from 1844, this Madeira Quinta is proud to have been the first to have been converted into a hotel and still belongs to its original family. Touring the diverse region is highly recommended. Nature walks follow the winding course of the ‘levadas’ – irrigation canals built by early natives – and include scenic views of Laurissilva forest, classified by UNESCO in 1999 as a World Natural Heritage site.
Head to Pico do Areiro with a picnic lunch provided by hotel staff, and enjoy the breathtaking views as well as a hike to the highest peak of Pico Ruivo, 1,861 metres high.
Explore the historic towns, churches and museums of the island including the Museum of Sacred Art, Madeira Wine Museum and the Botanical Gardens. Visit a Madeira wine cellar in Funchal to discover how the drink is grown and blended.
