• In 2010, Essen was voted the European Capital of Culture. The Museum Folkwang holds the best art gallery in the city, with works by Monet, Van Gough, Gauguin and Renoir to name a few.  
• There are also many other landmarks in Essen, including a striking church, dating back to 1275 and the Ruhrmuseum, a museum dedicated to the history of the Ruhr area. 
• The Frankenhof wildlife park is a 45 minute drive from the hotel. The stunning landscapes and abundance of beautiful wildlife makes it well worth a visit. 
• For younger children, there is a petting zoo allowing you to get close to the different animals. The park is not just for children, since the quietness is worlds away from busier zoos or natural spaces.
