The hotel’s restaurant was completely renovated in 2011, transforming it into a gourmet experience, with excellent cuisine, using only fresh, seasonal products. Even the pickiest of eaters will be satisfied at this restaurant, with an extensive menu, including many vegetarian dishes. In 2010, Essen was voted the European Capital of Culture. The Museum Folkwang in the city is the best art gallery in the area, housing works by Manet, Van Gough, Gauguin and Renoir, amongst others. There are also many other landmarks in Essen, including a striking church, dating back to 1275 and the Ruhrmuseum, a museum dedicated to the history of the Ruhr area.

The Frankenhof wildlife park is a 45 minute drive away from the hotel, and the stunning landscapes and abundance of beautiful animals makes it well worth a visit. For young children there is a petty zoo, allowing you to get really close with the different animals. But the park is not just for children, since the quietness and tranquillity is a world away from busier zoo-type natural spaces.

A highlight of the area has to be Rheinuferpromenade in Düsseldorf, a vibrant area with many bars and beer gardens. It is very lively and exciting, and is popular with the locals, always a good sign! For historical buffs, the hotel’s Romans On The Lower Rhine package is a must see. This includes a tour of the area, where you will find out about life in the ancient city.
