Things to Do & Local Attractions

  • The alpincenter Bottrop is nearby, and at 640 meters long it features the world’s longest indoor ski slope. The complex has the highest beer garden in the Ruhr area and a delicious buffet, so after some winter sport fun (all year round), stick around for the après ski facilities. For more sport excitement the beautiful Wittringer tennis club is located very close to the hotel, as are a variety of bicycle hiring options.
  • For a more interactive experience, head to Hollywood in the Ruhr area, in the shape of The Movie Park. Only 15 minutes away from the hotel, the park will provide fun for all the family. 
  • Along the same vein is the Duisburg Zoo, a restful piece of nature in the heart of the city. There are hundreds of fascinating animals, including Europe’s first Dolphinarium, opened in 1965.
  • In 2010, Essen was voted the European Capital of Culture. The Museum Folkwang in the city is the best art gallery in the area, housing works by Manet, Van Gough, Gauguin and Renoir, amongst others. 
  • There are also many other landmarks in Essen, including a striking church, dating back to 1275 and the Ruhrmuseum, a museum dedicated to the history of the Ruhr area.
