About the hotel
The Fairmont Royal York is located in the centre of this vibrant city, and has played an integral part in its history. Although there has been a hotel on this site since the 1850s, the current building was opened as The Royal York Hotel in 1929, comprising 28 floors of 1,048 luxury rooms, a hospital, concert hall, library and glass-roofed garden. The Royal York has signified the epitome of elegance and glamour in Toronto for nearly a century. In 1988 the hotel received a $100 million refurbishment project that was completed in 1993. Many of the original features - such as the hand-painted ceilings, ornate furnishings, crystal chandeliers and wall-hangings - are still intact. The hotel has hosted many famous guests from the worlds of entertainment, politics and international royalty, drawn to the unique atmosphere of timeless glamour.
