The Golf

San Domenico Golf lies next to the town of Savelletri, with its southern boundary as close to the sea as the road and rocky coastline will allow. To the north are the olive groves and agricultural fields that the site was once part of. Now, the formerly flat and featureless land is a challenging 18-hole golf course that offers an unforgettable experience for visitors, and superb views of the Adriatic Sea from every tee, green and fairway. Created by European Golf Design, the course measures over 6,220m, has a par of 72 and has been constructed to the highest standards with greens conforming to USGA specifications. As is to be expected of a golf course so close to the sea, wind can play a significant role in the challenge of the course. Together with strategic bunkering, definitive fairway shaping and clever green design, a thought-provoking golf test has been set. A golf cart and shuttle service are provided for guests.

About Masseria San Domenico

Against the backdrop of a cobalt-blue sky and sea, the whitewashed Masseria San Domenico lies only 500 metres from the Adriatic coast in the Puglia region of Italy. The building itself dates back to the 14th Century when it was used by the Knights of Malta as a watch tower. It was lovingly restored in the early 1990s and opened as a boutique-style hotel in 1996. Recently hailed as the ‘new Tuscany’, Puglia has played host to the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Normans and Spanish over the centuries. As a result the area is rich in archeological finds, castles, cathedrals and historic towns such as beautiful Alberobello with its small, whitewashed trulli houses.

Luxury Hotel Facilities

The centrepiece of the hotel is undoubtedly the magnificent irregular-shaped swimming pool encircled by rocks and plants, which stands amidst 100 hectares of olive groves and orchards. The pool is filled with naturally filtered seawater, reflecting the philosophy of the hotel’s brand new Thalassotherapy Spa. Here, guests can select from a host of treatments using the rich seaweed and waters found in the nearby Adriatic Sea including massages, facials and Balneotherapy. As well as the outdoor swimming pool, the hotel has a private beach, two tennis courts, gym, sauna and steam bath. Masseria San Domenico is home to one of Italy’s best Thalassotherapy spas, which offers treatments using the rich seawater and seaweed found in the nearby Adriatic Sea.

Things to do in Brindisi

Of notable interest are the ruins and Museum of Egnazia. This ancient city, dating back to Roman times, was the last fort before Brindisi on the Appian Way. Also not to be missed is Martina Franca, a city renowned for its baroque architecture, with houses clinging to steep cliffs, or Ostuni, referred to locally as ‘The White City’. Puglia boasts extensive Roman remains including the impressive theatres of Lecce and Lucera and the celebrated Roman columns which mark the end of the Appian Way. There are several restaurants offering local cuisine including the best seafood dishes in the region, along with excellent wines.
